Course Information
Description A survey of the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual history of the United States from the Civil War/Reconstruction era to the present. United States History II examines industrialization, immigration, world wars, the Great Depression, Cold War and post-Cold War eras. Themes that may be addressed in United States History II include: American culture, religion, civil and human rights, technological change, economic change, immigration and migration, urbanization and suburbaniza
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies Weekly Assignments: 
  • After each lecture a student will be assigned a Weekly Assignment. This will vary between Lecture Quizzes, Journal Entries or a combination of both.
  • All weekly assignments are due a week after they are assigned and should be turned in at the beginning of the next class meeting. 
  • All weekly assignments that require writing should be done so legibly - If I cannot read it, I cannot grade it!
Exams:
  • You will complete three (3) exams for this course after each unit. Exams will be 30 matching question and one short discussion.
  • Information for unit test will come predominantly from in class lectures. It is in your best interest to take notes during class.
  • All three tests are open notes/open book.
  • You will have the first portion of assigned class periods to complete each unit test.
  • There is no cumulative final in this class.
Core Assignment:
  • Instructor will provide a specific packet with instructions for the Core Assignment
  • Students should begin working on their Core Assignment after the packet is distributed - do not wait until we cover the assignment's corresponding time period in class.
  • Core Assignment should be written legibly - If I cannot read it, I cannot grade it!
Late Work Policy: 
  • The instructor will accept late work with a penalty of a deduction of 10-points per class day. Any assignments not turned in after three class days will receive an automatic zero.
  • Make-up unit tests will only be given at the instructor's discretion. Students missing a unit test must provide documentation for their absence
Academic Honesty:
  • All students should complete their own work - there will be no group work assigned in this class. Any student suspected of cheating will receive a 0% for the assignment. No make-up work will be allowed to be submitted.
Attendance Policy

Students must attend class every scheduled class day. The instructor counts attendance every scheduled class day. The instructor allows two unexcused absences; however, any absences beyond the two unexcused absences will affect the student’s grade. If the student is tardy to class, the student is counted as being late. If the student leaves class early, without prior notice to the instructor, then the student will be counted as absent for that day. 

After three absences, the student's lack of participation will be reported to LSCPA's administration. 

 
Additional Information In The Event of a Lockdown:

In the event of a prison lockdown, students should do the following:
  1. Student should continue reading the assigned chapters via the course schedule.
  2. Unless a specific assignment was handed out, students should complete the "Recall and Reflect" in-book assignment at the end of each chapter. In the absence of class, the "Recall and Reflect" assignments will go towards your "Journal Entry" grade. 
  3. The instructor may be able to submit work packets during the lockdown, if so, those assignments should be done instead of the "Recall and Reflect" assignment. 
  4. All work completed during the lockdown should be handed in to the instructor on the first day of returning to class.
  5. As stated earlier, the majority of information on your Unit Tests will come from the in-person lectures. This will be amended in event of a lockdown to strictly cover information in the assigned textbook.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
